About the OVO Hydro Arena in Glasgow? (formerly Hydro SSE Arena)

The OVO Hydro Arena is located in Glasgow, Scotland on the site of Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre. The arena opened officially on 30th September 2013 with a Rod Stewart concert, and has a capacity of 12,000 (everyone seated) or 13,000 in a standing performance. Designed by the London based Foster + Partners, the SSE Hydro will play host to international musical stars, global entertainment and sports events, and will attract one million visitors each year which makes it the 5th busiest entertainment venue after Madison Square Garden, The O2 arena and others. On November 9th 2013, The OVO Hydro Arena was chosen to host the 20th annual MTV European Music Awards which will occur in 2014. This will be the fifth time the United Kingdom has hosted and the second time Scotland has hosted the event after Edinburgh in 2003. The OVO Hydro Arena will augment the SECC’s existing facilities, and will play host to around 140 events every year. From its opening in 2013, The OVO Hydro Arena has the potential to inject an additional £131 million annually into the local economy.

The arena was initially named The Hydro after its main sponsor Scottish Hydro Electric. The arena was known as The SSE Hydro until October 2021, when it was announced that the name was to change to 'OVO Hydro', after its new sponsor OVO Energy, with a focus on making the venue more sustainable.

Directions The city sits on the nation-wide transport system with fast rail and road access to all the UK's principal cities.

OVO is just off Junction 19 of the M8 motorway. Our postcode for your satnav is G3 8YW. On-site payable parking is available for over 1,600 vehicles. Event & concert pre-pay facilities available 12 hours - £8.00, pay at the car park pay station.

By Air Glasgow is served by three international airports with connections across the world, Glasgow International, Glasgow Prestwick and Edinburgh International.

Glasgow's International Airport is less than 15 minutes drive by direct motorway link from the city centre

From the airport, First Bus 757 service operates daily (every 20 minutes) to Glasgow City Centre via the SECC and return.

By Rail There are more than 20 direct trains per day from London. Direct trains from Edinburgh run every 15 minutes on weekdays. Scotrail is the main operator in Scotland and has information on the West Highland Line, the North Highland Line and Caledonian Sleepers (overnight trains from Scotland to London). Check ScotRail’s latest timetables or download the ScotRail app by texting ‘ScotRail’ to 86688. Once in the city centre, the SEC is a three-minute train ride from Glasgow Central. If you arrive at Queen Street, you’ll need to walk or get a bus to Central to continue your journey by train.

The SEC has its own dedicated railway station – Exhibition Centre – allowing easy access from the city centre and suburbs. There are six trains an hour (around every 10 minutes) from Glasgow Central station, departing from Platform 17 (low level). Strathclyde Passenger Transport operates the Glasgow Subway providing quick and convenient connections from 15 points across the city (the St. Enoch stop is a few minutes’ walk from Central Station for onward transfer to the campus).

Glasgow has the largest rail network in the UK outside London. Glasgow's Central Station is connected with every city in the UK, while Queen Street Station serves central and northern Scotland. Once you're in Glasgow, your journey right to our front door can be completed by train Trains run to the SECC from the city centre with a journey time of just three minutes.

By Bus Coach operators run services to Glasgow’s Buchanan Bus Station from throughout the UK. Visit Traveline Scotland for details.

The 100 Riversider service operated by SPT runs between George Square (north) in Glasgow city centre and the Scottish Event Campus and Riverside Museum (south) and back every 30 minutes. View timetable for details.

The Hydro Glasgow is the premier music venue in Scotland , just next door to the long established SECC (Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre) it’s a 12,000 seat capacity arena , set to host some truly legendary music shows and events.

Top Blocks and Rows in the SSE Hydro Glasgow

For most shows the floor seating will give great views of the stage area and acoustically you should get a good stereo mix, choose tickets within these blocks to guarantee this experience.

Blocks 001 , 002, 003, 004 , 005 , 0 06 , 007, 008, 009, 010, 011, 012 – blocks in bold are the front ones.

All blocks 50, 51, 52, 53, 54, 55, 56, 57 and 58 will offer great views , with 52 to 56 providing a more direct view.

As you get into the blocks starting 201 through to 218, the views are still good, but you may be starting to get higher up the venue.

The final two rows of blocks, with numbers from 221 to 238 and then numbers 324 to 326 will be further back, still lot’s to see but a way back from the action.

Some shows may also resort to standing tickets on the floor area, these will provide the usual gig vibe and allow freedom of movement and maximum dancing potential (moshing, if it’s a metal show).

Girls Aloud delighted fans when they announced they'd be reuniting for a UK and Ireland tour next year. Cheryl Tweedy, Nicola Roberts, Kimberley Walsh and Nadine Coyle will visit arenas up and down the country to celebrate bandmate Sarah Harding , who died from breast cancer in 2021.

The tour will begin at Dublin's 3Arena on May 18, 2024, and finish up at Liverpool's M&S Bank Arena on June 29. The four-piece will also be performing at the Glasgow OVO Hydro on Saturday, June 8.

Presale tickets for this show, and all others in the tour, will go on sale on Wednesday, November 29, at 9am on Ticketmaster . Fans who signed up to the band's official website will be able to buy them then.

General ticket sales will then go live on Friday, December 1. If you are hoping to grab tickets for the show at Glasgow's OVO Hydro, then this seating map may help you plan.

The layout shows the stage at one end of the arena and six tiers of seating - with a standing area in the middle. The Gift Wrapped Kitty Kat VIP Zone is front and centre of the stage, with a seated floor area surrounding it. Further back comes the retractable seating area, then three more tiers of seats.

Girls Aloud confirmed the reunion tour on Wednesday, November 22. Speaking after the news was announced Cheryl said: "We all started talking about the possibility of doing something to celebrate Girls Aloud’s 20-year anniversary a few years ago. The anniversary seemed like an obvious thing that we would celebrate.

"But when Sarah fell ill all priorities changed. She passed away a year before the anniversary and it just didn’t feel right, it felt too soon.

"But now, I think there is an energy that does makes it feel right. It’s the right time to celebrate Sarah, it’s the right time to celebrate the band and the right time to celebrate the fact we can still do this 21 years later. That’s a big honour in lots of ways.”

Girls Aloud was formed in 2002 on the back of Popstars: The Rivals. The band achieved 20 consecutive top-ten singles in the UK, including four number ones. They went on hiatus in 2009 - briefly reuniting in 2012-13.

Ahead of the release of their brand new compilation album, Rebel Diamonds , on 8th December , The Killers are thrilled to announce details of a celebratory UK/Ireland tour in summer 2024. The Rebel Diamonds Tour will celebrate the band’s 20 years of hits in a series of arena shows, including multiple nights at London’s The O2.

The new dates are the first time The Killers have played arena shows in the UK since 2017’s Wonderful Wonderful tour, and follow the band’s most recent stadium tour, which saw them play to 400,000 fans at sold out shows including two euphoric nights at London’s Emirates Stadium in June 2022, and last year’s standout headline shows at Reading & Leeds Festivals.

Rebel Diamonds is an album of highlights featuring 20 tracks, including the modern day classics “ Mr. Brightside, ” “ When You Were Young, ” “ All These Things That I ’ ve Done,” “Human,” “ Read My Mind ” , “The Man” and more, through to the band’s most recently released, critically-lauded single, “ Your Side of Town, ” and one brand new anthem, “Spirit” .

Rebel Diamonds is a curated dive into an impressive catalogue of songwriting and musicianship - one that has solidified the band as one of the most important voices in rock ‘n’ roll over the last two decades. The album features at least one song from each of the band’s seven studio albums. From the groundbreaking debut Hot Fuss , celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2024, to the band’s latest full length LP, 2021’s Pressure Machine , Rebel Diamonds showcases the group’s versatility and staying power across the ever-changing alternative music landscape.  The collection is made up of songs that embody who The Killers are as a band, additionally including some favourites of theirs that have resonated over the years - tracks like “ Be Still, ” from 2012’s album Battle Born or “ Dying Breed ” from 2020’s album Imploding The Mirage or “ A Dustland Fairytale ” from 2008’s Day & Age , which the band recently re-recorded and performed with Bruce Springsteen.
